AFTER 10: CRYING SERIES

Warren Van Rensburg’s AFTER 10 concept focuses on the in the initial emotions people would have if their country won a major football tournament, a moment that would host feelings of joy, madness or pure anxiety.

As a portrait photographer, he is always on a quest to capture a moment that is stolen and unearthed, that’s how he came up with the Crying Series. This is about the small subtleties the face shares with the viewer in wondrous oblivion. His challenge was to re-create these emotions as a conceptual story that would not feel contrived or set.

WARREN FROM THE LAND OF DREAMS

Growing up in Vereeniging, which Warren van Rensburg fondly remembers as ‘the land of dreams’, can make or break a young artistic spirit.

But the lack of cool in his hometown sent Warren on a quest to find it anywhere he could. At the relatively late age of 16, he took up skateboarding - and through skateboarding magazines got into photography. He now makes art and a living through his lens. And still skates too. See what he did for the Nike BE TRUE Exhibition and find out more at his other work at http://warrenvanrensburg.blogspot.com/

THE COMPANY WE KEEP

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. By now you have probably heard that our own Oscar Pistorius came in at number 23 of Times’ list of The World’s Most Influential People. In the category Heroes and Pioneers, nogal. Of course we couldn’t resist pointing out our connection to him …

No one in our team who had the privilege of working with Oscar in preparation for the Nike launch is actually surprised – only happy to see that he’s getting such wide recognition. Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind person to conquer Mount Everest, wrote the article on Oscar. He sums it up very well: “It’s too easy to credit Pistorius’ success to technology. Through birth or circumstance, some are given certain gifts, but it’s what one does with those gifts, the hours devoted to training, the desire to be the best, that is at the true heart of a champion.” Click here to read the full article & here to see the photos Warren van Rensburg took of Oscar for the Nike Be True exhibition.
