THE ULTIMATE RUN-OFF

The challenge is on at the world’s largest running club: until 20 April 2009 www.nikeplus.com will be keeping track of the kilometers run by men and women who join the official, worldwide Men vs. Women online challenge. (Can you spot Roger Federer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Tony Parker, Eva Longoria Parker, Paula Radcliffe, Sofia Boutella and Fernando Torres in the launch ad below?)

So how is it done? The Nike+ system allows Nike+ running shoes to transmit information to an iPod nano, an iPod touch or Nike+ SportBand. It also makes it easy to keep track of details such as time, distance, pace and calories burned on www.nikeplus.com, thereby making this mega global challenge possible.

The victorious gender will be the side that wins two of the three categories: total kilometers, average kilometers per runner and the most kilometers run by an individual in a 24-hour period. Click below to see who’s in the lead – and to sign yourself up as well. (Ladies especially, as right now it’s not looking that great for us…)

BASEL DOES IT BEAUTIFULLY

In true Nike tradition, the opening of the new store in Basel, Switzerland, was not your run of the mill ribbon-cutting ceremony…

Hats off to Viet Dang for the concept and choreography which literally had jaws dropping. Of course, it would have been great to see it live but in lieu of the real thing, here’s the video by Simon Steuri. Enjoy.

AND WE THINK PHOKS ROCKS TOO

When French photographer/art director, Phoks, recently showcased some of the works from his personal digital media collection we couldn’t help but take notice.

The pieces reflect his distinct brand of imagination as well as a certain appreciation – or can one even say infatuation? – with Nike products. So in addition to an aesthetic approval of his work, Phoks deserves our respect for his sterling choice of subject matter.

AIR MAX GOES NU RAVE

The Nike Air Max Premium revisits its 1990s rave roots in the classic shape, sleek lines and crazy colours of the Air Max Citron.

These shoes were not made for shy feet: a combination of citron, rave pink and deep black tends to steal the attention away from the other sneakers on the sidewalk. The soft black suede on the upper provides a strong contrast for the rave pink accents on the eyelets and the citron accents on the laces, swoosh, outsole and heel. But it’s more than just a dramatic backdrop: being fully perforated it also improves breathability and comfort.

Also featuring the Nike Air Max patch and the visible Air Unit, this Air Max is set to find its feet remarkably fast.

Now available in seriously limited numbers at Gallery on 4th! Come get yours while stocks last.

VINTAGE REVISITED

Nike has been having loads of fun with the vintage concept lately: last year saw the launch of the remastered Dunk and more recently the Cortez made an equally exciting comeback. Now, it’s time to witness the reincarnation of the Nike Blazer Hi.

Subtle touches of designing genius – such as the very specific off-white colour chosen for the laces and soles– endow the new Nike Blazer Hi with all the nostalgic appeal of a really great ‘dead stock’ discovery.

The heel tab also mimics the first Nike Blazer heel tab and the white leather swoosh and tongue tab and the 100% suede upper is reminiscent of the very first Nike sneakers. What’s more, the panels even look glued together for that extra touch of vintage authenticity.

These are available in the Old Royal (blue) and Varsity Red colourways.

There’s no chance of the Nike Blazer Hi turning into dead stock at the Gallery on 4th - so come get yours quick.
