MASTERS OF MASH UP

There’s never a dull moment with our man Kanye West around; constantly innovating and expertly collaborating. As a case in point check out the mash up of Love Lockdown by DJ Earworm below. (Besides the piece’s obvious merits, we’re also featuring it as a fond reminder of Nike’s close relationship with Mr. West through the recent Air Yeezy Project.)

SETTING THE SCENE

Last weekend Gallery on 4th was a buzz with bright lights, booms and busy, busy people. We were proud to play host to Khuli Chana, member of the Motswako group, Morafe, as he shot some scenes for his latest music video in the space.

The single is called Tswak’ stick’em and appears on his first solo album, The Motswako Originator Show, due to be released in a couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for the video.

In the meantime you could visit Khuli’s facebook group, Khuli Chana.

ALL HAIL QUEEN LEE!

Lee Kasumba and the Gallery on 4th go back to the very beginning (ours, not hers). An embodiment of what it means to ‘Be True’, she was featured as one of the subjects of Liam Lynch’s photographs  for the relaunch of the Nike Dunk in South Africa.

If you live in Joburg and like Hip-Hop, you’ll know all about Lee’s legendary reputation as DJ, radio personality and ‘Mother of Hip-Hop’ (and her self-proclaimed ability to make rappers cry). Then you’ll also understand our obvious delight in her ongoing patronage of the Gallery (as pictured above with along with Mkay Fresh).

If her name doesn’t ring a bell? Get your head out from under that rock and catch her on Y-fm’s Hip-Hip show, The Bridge, Monday to Thursday, 22h00 – 00h00.

Read more on Lee at Liam’s blog or the Y-fm Website.

THE NSW LAUNCH

Ever been to an event where even staring at the floor was absolutely fascinating? If you attended the SA Launch of Nike Sportswear and happened to look down, the answer would be yes.

On the 8th of August NSW covered the surface of a deserted ice rink in inner-city Jo’burg with bright green Astroturf and invited some of the freshest, funkiest (and a few famous) feet to strut their stuff (and their favourite footwear, of course!) to the sounds of DJs Sweat-X, Euphonik and C-Live.

WHO DO WE LOVE?

It is said that you are known by the company you keep; that a lot can be deduced by looking at who calls you a friend. And if that’s true, we are so way cool!

We thought we’d do a bit of namedropping by focusing your attention on one of our favourite Gallery on 4th Facebook friends.

Pictured here (in the red Windrunner) at the birthday party of DJ Dimplez – another of the hottest DJs in Jo’burg right now – is DJ Milkshake (in red), darling of the MTV Generation and Hip Hop devotees. You could get to know the man and his music at SHOWLOVE and Dot 3 parties, or find out more at:
